Nature Friendly Schools Officer

Field Studies Council

Salary – £19,726 - £22,511 per annum

Contract Term – This is fixed term position due to start in April 2019 and end on 31st March 2020.

FSC is a partner in a consortium of organisations to deliver the Nature Friendly Schools Project. This large-scale project (£6.3m) is one of three within the Children and Nature Programme, a flagship programme for the 25 Year Environment Plan, led jointly by Natural England Defra and Department for Education and with a budget of £10m. The project will deliver natural environment interventions for schools with an aim to improving pupils’ mental health and wellbeing, school engagement, plus their physical health, behaviour, attendance and care & concern for the environment. All partners will work with schools to build resilience.

1 day a week. Conservation Tasks might include: Clearing vegetation with hand tools, constructing woodland paths and steps, hand pulling invasive plants, constructing fences and stiles. You will need to be physically fit and happy to work out in all weathers. Some experience of using hand tools would be helpful. JOB: Engagement Volunteer

LOC: Slapton Ley Field Centre, Devon

PAY: Accom, food and relevant training

FOR: Field Studies Council

6 weeks. This role will involve: Observing and assisting with educational events and activities working towards leading events and activities for visitors such as fire lighting, shelter building, pond dipping and bat walks. Engaging with visitors, providing them with information and helping them discover what Slapton Ley has to offer. Assisting the ranger in management of the nature reserve including assisting with various monitoring projects. There may also be an opportunity to carry out your own independent project.
