Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is looking for enthusiastic, practical, organised people to join our Central Region Programme Team to help shape the future of Scotland’s forests and land.
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is an executive agency of the Scottish Government. We manage land on behalf of Scottish Ministers and serve as part of the Environment and Forestry directorate of the Scottish Government.
The Central Region covers approximately 90,000 hectares and is made up of low-lying land holdings in the East to high mountainous forestry and open land in the North & West, including lands within the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.
This post is primarily based in the Cowal area with an office base at Glenbranter.
The Work Programmer plays a key role in compiling and planning work programmes to meet our economic, social and environmental objectives.
The Programme Manager prepares the scheduling of traditional forestry work, such as road building, tree felling and tree planting. There is an increasing need for a programme of peatland restoration, native woodland restoration and the installation of recreation infrastructure. It will be the Programme Manager’s duty to schedule these programmes. Additionally, there is the challenge of actively managing programmes responding to the spread of Phytophthora ramorum in larch.
As well as scheduling works at the right time, the programmer needs to facilitate team input to work plans to ensure jobs are carried out safely, without damage to the environment.
Good organisational, communication and strategic thinking skills are most important in this role.
Forestry and/or land management experience will be helpful but not essential.
