Uplands Team Support Officer

  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Location: Office based in Eggleston, Co. Durham
  • Salary: £19,000-£25,000, dependent on experience

The position

This is an opportunity to work within a small team of conservation biologists dedicated to wildlife management and habitat restoration within the English uplands. We are seeking a support officer for this team, to be based in our Eggleston office.

This role, reporting to Director of Uplands Research, will provide a wide range of office support duties, including receptionist, provision of internal and external communications, financial management (including overseeing budgets, and contract servicing), database creation and maintenance, management of GWCT vehicles, responsibility for Health & Safety at Work, organising meetings and conferences, overseeing day-to-day running and maintenance of our office and student accommodation, and providing general administrative support to team members. Subject to post-holder competencies, there may be a requirement to assist with some field-based duties (e.g. data recording, assisting with ecological surveys) at certain times of year.

Overall objectives

  • To ensure the smooth running of our Eggleston office
  • To provide administrative support to the Uplands Team
  • To present a professional and efficient interface with internal and external partners

   
Skills required

Essential

  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft software packages, particularly Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel
  • Proven organisational skills
  • Ability to use initiative, plan and prioritise work and work to deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively both in isolation and as part of the wider team
  • Full UK driving licence

   
Desirable

  • First Aid and Fire Warden training
  • Willingness to provide occasional assistance with care of GWCT dogs
  • Familiarity with upland bird species and habitats
