Description:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to assist the Senior Ranger with the day to day management of Barnwell Country Park near Oundle in Northamptonshire. An important part of this particular ranger role will entail developing and running a varied and exciting year round programme of public activities and small events at the park.

You will need a Diploma Level 2 or above in Countryside Management (or similar) and/or demonstrable experience as a Ranger (or similar) and the enthusiasm and ideas required to make this post a success. This post is subject to DBS clearance.

Main responsibilities will include:

1. To undertake park maintenance operations, including the minor maintenance of machinery, tools and equipment.
2. To supervise voluntary staff, work placements, public groups and individuals as directed.
3. To assist with park events and other public activities, including giving guided walks an d talks.
4. To foster good relations with all park stakeholders including visitors, friends of parks groups, on-site leaseholders, local councillors,
neighbouring landowners, local businesses and community groups.
5. To deal with emergencies and summon assistance where necessary.
6. To patrol the park, assist the visitors and encourage compliance with the park byelaws and the country code.
7. To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for health, safety and welfare and to comply with the policies and procedures
relating to health and safety within the Service, including undertaking risk assessments for activities.
8. To carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description.

To deliver this role successfully, you will need to;

1. Have some practical experience of woodland/rural skills
2. Have evidence of good people management and leadership
3. Have excellent communication skills including public presentation
4. Have strong organisational skills including work programming
5. Have a proven track record of managing and leading on health and safety and environmental compliance
6. Have a full UK Driving licence
7. Be able to work with contractors
