Duration: 14 months fixed-term post ending on 31/12/2022
Benefits: Pension, 26 days Annual Leave (pro-rata), Life Assurance

This project, part of the Water, Mills and Marshes Heritage Lottery-funded landscape partnership scheme, was launched in 2018 to help children and families living around the RSPB Mid Yare Nature Reserves discover, connect, celebrate and support the special wildlife and wild places on their doorstep. The project has built a skilled volunteer team and worked with 6 local schools to develop indoor and outdoor learning programmes that aim to connect children to the special nature in their local area.

In this role you will work with the RSPB team based at Strumpshaw Fen, a dedicated project volunteer team, and partner with local schools to build on what has been achieved to date, to plan and deliver the project programme and deliverables for 2022.

This role is part-time working 2 days per week.

You will have the choice of carrying out desk work from home or use the Strumpshaw RSPB office. Some work will require attendance at Strumpshaw Fen reserve or locations (eg. schools) within 5-10 miles of there.

What's the role about

  • Developing a support and training programme for school staff, possibly with a digital element, to embed knowledge and confidence that will sustain the in-school learning programmes and pride in the natural heritage in the culture of the school
  • Developing and testing other digital learning resources (video) for use at school
  • Design resources or facilities at the nature reserve to sustain school visits or enhance opportunities for families beyond the project
  • Continue face-to-face engagement at schools or at the nature reserves as far as lasting impacts of the pandemic allow
  • Developing the plan to adapt the role and management of the project volunteers beyond the end of the funded project.
  • You will lead the delivery of that programme, supported by our Visitor Experience team and RSPB England Education and Communications teams
  • You will play a lead role in the project reporting and evaluation, working with the Broads Authority programme manager.
