We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and organised person with a keen interest in biodiversity to lead on our practical habitat management works across the borough.

You will need a solid knowledge in habitat management and biodiversity conservation together with a can do attitude.

A good team player as well as someone able to operate on their own is essential.

This is very much a hands on practical position but there is also a small amount of IT skills required to carry out the role.

The borough of Basingstoke and Deane has a range of wildlife-rich habitats including ancient woodlands, calcareous grasslands and heathland.

You will be a good communicator as working with and alongside volunteer and friends groups is an essential requirement of the role.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Grass cutting (and collection, in species - rich areas)
  • Thicket thinning and scrub clearance
  • Woodland coppice work and woodland ride clearance
  • Hedge cutting and hedge laying
  • Pond and stream clearance
  • Tree planting
  • Wild flower and grass seeding
  • Liaising closely with Landscape and Biodiversity Officers and the Community Development Officer for green spaces
  • Leading volunteer work parties

Skills and Competencies required:

  • Highly motivated individual
  • Well-organised and able to take direction
  • Strong team work skills
  • Tractor driving, trailer handling, pesticide, chainsaw and brushcutter certificates
  • Good IT skills with experience of CMSi desirable
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Relevant practical habitat management experience98.
  • Driving licence
