An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Northumberland Coastal Mitigation Service (CMS).
As a Wildlife Ranger you will be engaging with people in order to tackle recreational impacts on internationally important wildlife sites on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the UK.
You will undertake a variety of roles, including awareness-raising, education, ornithological monitoring, disturbance monitoring, enforcement, designing solutions for disturbance hotspots, nest protection and control of pirri-pirri bur within dune grasslands.
Effective public engagement is key to the success of this project and, as well as engaging face to face with people on the coast, you will be responsible for helping to deliver a compelling social media presence, telling the fascinating story of coastal wildlife through the seasons and increasing public appreciation of and support for it.
We are searching for a candidate who combines excellent people skills with an understanding of ecological issues and a deep commitment to nature conservation, and who has the tact and assertiveness to influence people’s behaviour, pursuing enforcement action when required. You will have experience of public engagement, ecological survey work, habitat and access management, and will have excellent verbal and written communications skills. You will also have the ability and motivation to undertake extensive, ongoing ornithological and disturbance monitoring work.
This challenging role is an exciting opportunity to deliver an important initiative to conserve important bird populations and dune grasslands in one of England’s most stunning landscapes. Frequent weekend working will be required, as well as access to a car for work purposes.
