Plantlife

Rainforest Advisor - Wales

Do you have a passion for nature conservation and protecting and improving habitats and species? Do you have woodland management knowledge and would relish an opportunity to work in our Temperate Rainforests and Oceanic Woodlands to secure the future of the lichens, bryophytes and other wildlife within them? Are you an excellent communicator with the ability to influence and support landowners, managers and others? If you can answer ‘yes’ to these questions, we want to hear from you.

Plantlife are seeking an advisor to support practical habitat management and species recovery management within temperate rainforest sites in Wales, and enthuse a network of site managers on the action required for threatened plants and fungi.

What will you be doing?

The Rainforest Advisor will design and deliver a programme of advice and training to support Plantlife’s partners and their site managers. That programme will drive species recovery for lichens and bryophytes within temperate rainforest and showcase the sites as demonstrable examples of excellent habitat and species management.

The postholder will play a key role in the delivery of Plantlife’s Coedwigoedd Glaw Gwydny ng Nghymru/Resilient Welsh Rainforests project. This project is funded by the Nature Networks Programme. It is being delivered by the Heritage Fund, on behalf of the Welsh Government.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week). We work normal office hours (9-5, Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch), although the roles may also require some weekend and evening working for which time off in lieu is available. We also fully support flexible working.

It is expected that the post will be home-based within or close to our focal areas, which are northwest Wales, mid Wales and north Pembrokeshire. The role will require frequent travel throughout Wales and occasionally elsewhere in England and Wales.

Who are we looking for?

You will be an experienced conservation site manager and advisor, ambitious to learn more about the ecology and requirements of rainforest plants and fungi. You will be an influential and persuasive individual with previous project management experience, comfortable engaging with various stakeholders across all aspects of conservation management.
