This is a one-year, fixed term contract role based in the UK as part of the Common Purpose team responsible for leading and developing the organisation’s environmental work – a key strategic priority for Common Purpose. We focus on developing programmes for leaders who are working on environmental issues (they are not necessarily in the environmental sector as our work gathers leaders from all walks of life who are tackling environmental challenges).

We are a registered charity working to develop leaders who can cross cultural, institutional, and social boundaries. We are an organization founded on strong social purpose and we live this continuously through our work. An important part of our values is to support diverse talent and as part of that our commitment is to ensuring that people from under-represented backgrounds have places on our programmes. Over 75,000 professional staff and almost 40,000 students across the globe have participated in our programmes.

The Programmes Director will be responsible for designing and delivering the Nature Recovery Leadership Programmes, leadership development programmes run in-person and online for emerging leaders involved in nature recovery in the UK. They will be an experienced facilitator and someone who can build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing stakeholders.

  Responsibilities

  • Secure a diverse group of applicants for the leadership programmes and meet application and financial targets.
  • Manage multiple and diverse stakeholders, including our Advisory Group members, alumni, participants, partners and programme contributors.
  • Design and develop high impact programme curriculum, while also creating materials that support the quality of our programmes.
  • Facilitate high quality leadership programmes, for emerging leaders/mid-career professionals both online and in-person, ensuring the involvement of all participants.
  • Ensure that the Common Purpose image is high profile, independent and professional - marketing Common Purpose programmes and the campaign through a range of communication channels – including social media.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated and resilient.
  • Enterprising, energetic and curious.
  • Confident at building sustainable relationships with mid-level and senior leaders, and persuading people and their organisation of the value of taking part in our leadership development programmes.
  • A confident presenter and communicator with experience of inspiring confidence in senior and diverse groups.
  • Experienced in learning design and in learning principles.
  • Experienced in managing and prioritizing a high workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of local, national issues and current affairs, whilst steering a non-aligned path.
  • Be passionate about helping to develop leaders who are working to tackle environmental challenges and to shape a more inclusive and sustainable future.
  • Experience of working in a remote/dispersed role.

All applicants must also:

  • Have excellent written English, oral communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable interacting on the phone/video calls and in-person.
  • Be able and willing to travel for short periods of time (possibly outside of normal working hours) when asked to support programme delivery.
  • Be confident and proficient in the use of MS Office and Zoom (and ideally, project planning tools).

If you have a passion for making a difference and are looking for an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of a dynamic non-profit organization, we encourage you to apply for this position.

Please send us your CV and cover letter through our careers page - we will not consider any applications that don’t contain a cover letter. As a purpose-led organization committed to access and equity, we welcome applications from different and diverse backgrounds; attitude, mindset and energy are the critical currency for this role.
