Principal Climate Change Officer

Location Riverside House, Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Salary £38,296 - £41,496
Permanent, 37 hours per week.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is an impressive Council with a renewed strong sense of direction. The Council is embarking upon an unprecedented level of regeneration which is seeking to deliver real and substantial improvements to the quality of life of its residents.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual with a passion for climate change mitigation and excellent skills in data management to join the Council as its Principal Climate Change Officer. It is a great time to join the Council as we address the ‘call to action’ to urgently reduce carbon emissions both from the Council’s operations and throughout the Borough as a whole, whilst building resilience to climate change and also to support climate priorities within the South Yorkshire area and Yorkshire and Humber region.

This exciting role will support the development of new Business Intelligence strategies to inform and improve decision making in relation to climate change impacts across the council, whilst also working on several climate related projects across the Council and throughout the Rotherham Borough.

The role will provide a technical lead and support function to Council Officers in the delivery of climate performance reporting, data management, statutory reporting, service improvement models, benchmarking, external review/inspection and the development of predictive analysis methods or modelling.

This role will also support the Climate Change Manager with the wider climate change programme to ensure the Council meets its Net Zero targets. This may include delivering carbon literacy training, providing guidance to council employees on how to reduce their carbon footprint, managing procurement activities, and working on specific carbon reduction projects as and when they arise.

We offer a great work life balance including flexible working as well as the option to work alongside a team willing challenge the norm to deliver a better outcome.
