Small Woods deliver a suite of accredited woodland management courses, with subsidised rates for our members and support new entrants to the coppice and sustainable woodland management sector through our apprenticeships.

Participants will be taught how to make a traditional woven hazel hurdle working alongside a professional hurdle maker. Each participant will make a hurdle to take home, along with the knowledge to continue to practice and hone their skills.

A great introduction to greenwood carving and whittling. Using simple techniques and tools you will learn how to carve a drinking cup using one piece of a greenwood branch. The base will be carefully crafted from seasoned wood and fitted to allow the pot to shrink and seal.

Using a traditional Somerset pattern, you will be taught how to make a woven willow panel to take home. The woven panels make attractive garden screens and the skills learnt will allow you to continue with future garden projects.
