Salary: £40,381.00 - £43,113.00 Per Annum

Terms: 27 months (Jan 2027 to Mar 2029), Full-Time, 37.5 hrs per week

Location: Flexible within Northern England

We are recruiting a Conservation Scientist to lead research on the Ring Ouzel, a charismatic but declining species of upland and montane areas. The project aims to design recovery interventions by; i) understanding habitat use on breeding, migration and wintering areas, threats faced and migratory connectivity between breeding populations. The postholder will oversee the deployment of satellite tags to breeding birds to collect these data; ii) analysing data from a UK solution trialling project, which tested the response of habitat and breeding Ring Ouzel to recovery interventions.

Initially, work is most likely to involve assisting with current projects, including liaison with clients and contractors and checking on progress of projects. However, as experience develops, you will take over some existing projects and take on new clients. Tasks will involve all aspects of forestry and woodland management including woodland assessment & survey work, mapping, preparation of reports and woodland management plans, making grant applications, applying for Felling Licences, as well as organising and supervising operations such as harvesting and extraction, timber sales, planting and restocking, new planting, maintenance and tending, rhododendron control and boundary repairs.
