Volunteer Roles

JOB: Conservation Ranger

BE4: Ongoing

LOC: Staunton Country Park, Havant

PAY: Parking, refreshments, training

FOR: Hampshire County Council

This role will work alongside other volunteers and Staunton Country Park Ranger staff to carry out a wide variety of conservation tasks. This is an exciting time for Staunton Country Park which has recently been awarded a £2.75 million Heritage Lottery Funded grant to enhance its physical environment and upgrade community facilities for visitors. Dependent on the seasons, typical conservation tasks include:  coppicing, woodland management and dead hedge laying and scrub management; installing and maintaining gates, fences, signs and benches; keeping footpaths accessible by clearing overgrowing vegetation and maintaining the surface; wildlife surveying and monitoring. No specific skills are needed, although most of the work is based outdoors so an interest in the countryside and a willingness to work in all weathers is desirable. A basic level of fitness is needed as conservation tasks require physical activity on uneven terrain. Flexible time commitment. ASK: Email stauntonhlf@hants.gov.uk to find out more.
