Senior Ecologist

To meet our growing business needs and development aspirations, we are looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our growing Dublin Team. The successful candidate could be based in either our Dublin or our Cork office, with the potential for working at home considered.

The successful applicant will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects. Reaching back to the UK, our ecology team is currently over one hundred strong which means technical as well as career mentoring to ensure your continued professional development.


You will be working on a wide range of projects, including a number of high-profile international infrastructure developments. Your responsibilities will comprise:

  • Managing delivery of projects
  • Developing and authoring Appropriate Assessments (AA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and other technical reports
  • Liaising with clients and regulators
  • Leading and supporting business development initiatives
  • Mentoring junior staff

Where field work is required candidates must have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate seasonality and survey time constraints. Jacobs has a strong record regarding duty of care to employees and as such you will not be expected to work unreasonably long days or undertake lone working.

Essential requirements:

  • Degree in a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience with a track record of authoring AA Screening reports, Natura Impact Statements at both plan and project level, technical reports and EcIAs for major infrastructure projects.
  • A terrestrial or aquatic specialism.
  • Ability to undertake habitat surveys and mapping in line with Fossitt.
  • Ability to design appropriate monitoring programmes and management of survey logistics and teams.
  • Experience of mitigation design and assessment.
  • Detailed understanding of relevant legislation, particularly in Irish and European legislation and case law.
  • Scientific approach to, and experience of, sampling design and data analysis.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Experience of consultation with regulators and scientific community.
  • Experience of mentoring or training junior staff.
  • Full current Irish driving licence.


  • Membership of a relevant professional body (or experience to obtain membership).
  • Specialism in ornithology or botany.
  • Protected species licence(s).
  • Expert Witness experience.
  • GIS experience.
