Kent Wildlife Trust

Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Project Development Officer

Job Title: Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Project Development Officer
Closing Date: 23rd September 2022
Interview Date: 5th October 2022
Salary Range: Up to £32,000 pa
Term: Permanent
Location: Kent (We have an agile working policy where staff can work from home, office or other agreed remote location, but location of employment will be the individual’s nearest Kent hub).

Globally and nationally wildlife is in steep decline. We appear to be reaching critical tipping points around the loss of biodiversity as well as around climate change, both being interlinked. Human society cannot prosper without wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale habitat from degraded land. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.

The growing NbS team at Kent Wildlife Trust is leading on strategic direction and thinking to respond to threats from climate change and increase resilience for climate adaptation, developing new tools, techniques, approaches and relationships. You will be supporting this vital work in one of two newly created roles – one which focuses on technical advice and input and the other on identification and development of potential projects that deliver multiple nature-based solutions.

In this role, you will assist in the identification and development of a new programme of landscape initiatives that will demonstrate how nature-based solutions can be proactively delivered on our own nature reserves and across the county, as well to deliver income generating NbS consultancy work for external clients. This means you will be working closely with potential project partners, including landowners and project delivery partners, as well as with teams across the Group.

Your technical knowledge, including experience of developing habitat restoration projects, understanding of current NbS policy and practice and experience of writing reports and proposals, will complement your excellent communication skills, an aptitude to build strong, effective working relationships, and your ability to think creatively and flexibly.
