About the role

Cornwall’s ‘face is its fortune’ and our responsibility is to manage and maintain some of the country’s most beautiful places on behalf of Cornwall Council. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Countryside and Beach Management Teams contributing towards the enhancement and development of Public Rights of Way, Sites & trails and Cornwall’s beaches. Responsible for the safety of the public, the day to day management and the protection for example of Cornwall’s network of Public Rights of Way (PRoW), the South West Coast Path, Council owned beaches, Camel trail, country parks, Bude canal etc.

Effective stewardship will support Cormac’s ambition to be recognised as the ‘environmental custodian’ of the assets we maintain on behalf of the Council. You will form part of the Cormac Environment Services Management Team which includes Operational grounds and landscape services, Public Open space management and the Countryside and Beaches. This role is crucial towards developing confident and trustworthy relationships with our Council Client and key stakeholders, driving improvement through innovative management regimes, enhancement schemes, or other infrastructure initiatives.

About you

We are looking for you to bring:

  • Chartered or similar service-related Countryside/Environment Qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice
  • Successful experience of giving advice to and building relationships with elected members and stakeholders.
  • Developing positive and fruitful relationships with land owners is key to preserving and protecting access to the countryside and beaches. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the environment in which we live and have extensive knowledge across the range of Countryside/beach management activities we undertake.
  • You must be able have proven experience of leading teams, able to identify issues, develop solutions, presenting ideas and communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, stakeholders, volunteers and elected members.

Our offer to you

Salary: £38,396 – £48,646

Working Hours: 37

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Hybrid , Home and site based from our office in Scorrier, Redruth (covering the whole of Cornwall)
