Landmarc Support Services manages the military training areas in the UK. We employ 1,300 people across 120 sites comprising 190,000 hectares of which about a quarter is designated as SSSI.

The Defence Training Estate in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall comprises ten sites that range from the upland moorland of Dartmoor, to coastal dune systems on the north coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to woodlands in the Somerset Levels. It is not just one of the most important military training areas, it also includes some of the most highly designated nature conservation sites in the UK, historic landscapes of national significance and iconic countryside with high levels of recreational access. This role presents an opportunity to work in extraordinary landscapes, liaising with farming tenants, military personnel and other stakeholders to deliver a safe and effective training area that complies with, or goes beyond, all statutory environmental obligations.

We are looking for a rural manager to complement our West Country and regional teams; someone who can deliver the detail of specific projects while appreciating the ‘bigger picture’ context for the company and client. As the successful candidate:

  • You have knowledge of rural estate management gained through a relevant degree or Level 4 qualification.
  • You have a good knowledge or working around protected species and priority habitats.
  • You have managed rural work teams and contractors with particular regard to health and safety and commercial priorities.
  • You are conversant with governing legislation relating to trees, protected species and habitats, the historic environment and public rights of way.
  • You are able to turn your hand to a variety of tasks, supervising contractors working on roads and tracks, listed buildings and historic assets.
  • You have a full UK driving license and are able to travel to sites throughout the South West.
  • You are able to satisfy basic security vetting, have good IT skills and the ability to both lead and be lead in a dynamic team.
  • You have a great curiosity about the estate and a willingness to learn and expand your role to fit the requirements of the job.
