Are you an enthusiastic individual with experience in practical conservation and working outdoors? Are you interested in training and opportunities in practical skills, group leadership and research and monitoring? Do you want to work in a team delivering practical forest restoration? Do you want to help contribute to an improved understanding of how to best restore semi-natural woodland in the UK?

The project, a partnership between the School of Earth and Environment and Forestry England, aims to restore Hardknott Forest to semi-natural woodland. We are combining practical conservation, informed by research and monitoring, to create and restore 630 hectares of native woodland and other wildlife rich habitats in the Lake District National Park. Research and monitoring will help to improve our understanding of how to restore semi-natural woodlands in the UK and the benefits for people, nature and our climate.

As a highly motivated project assistant you will work in a project team to deliver practical restoration and monitoring work. You will help arrange, co-ordinate and run practical volunteer activities, providing opportunities for volunteers to assist with forest restoration, research and monitoring. You will have experience and knowledge of practical conservation and ecological restoration projects, and enjoy working outside in remote and sometimes challenging conditions. This is a full time position, based at Hardknott Forest, Duddon Valley in Cumbria.
