£18,000 - £20,000 depending on experience - initial 2-year contract
The Box Moor Trust, formed way back in 1594, owns and maintains 500 acres of varied habitats, with help from rare breed sheep and cattle, on behalf of our 100,000 local people. These include unimproved chalk grassland, woodland, regenerating brick pits, flood meadows, chalk streams, a lake and old cressbeds.
If you are passionate about all the countryside has to offer and want to transfer that passion and knowledge to young and old there could be a place here for you within our small Estate Team. We are linking our environmental awareness work with our estate management tasks and aiming for one multi-skilled interactive team. Nature conservation and improving our links with our community will be at the core of our Estate work.
This position in our small estate team will assist with the management of a 500-acre estate. This includes an interesting variety of habitats such as unimproved chalk grassland, grazing moors, old water cress beds, chalk streams, flood meadows, woodlands and a highly diverse old brickworks site.
Included in this role will be general estate work as well as collating records from our many monitoring volunteers and developing our recording activities to link them to field management plans. Under the supervision of a Senior Ranger you will also work closely with children, families and the wider community to inspire everyone to appreciate, protect and take action for nature in an area where the population is steadily increasing.
We are looking for someone who can connect well with, train and mentor young people to encourage them to be advocates for nature recovery both locally and further afield. If you are passionate for nature, flexible to carry out a range of outdoor activity and have a good grounding in identification skills out in the field this could be what you are looking for.
Given the need for out of hours work, preference will be given to applicants who are willing to live within a 10-mile radius. To help compensate for our local housing costs a housing assistance top up of £250 a month will be offered to applicants who live within this radius.
