Connecting Communities Project Lead

Area: Devon, Cornwall and Somerset

Base: Roadford Lake office and home working. Also required to travel to Devon, Cornwall and Somerset

Type: Fixed term to 31 March 2023

Hours: 37.5 hours per week on a flexible basis; including weekends, Bank Holidays and some evenings.

Salary: £24,000 - £27,000 per annum


Contributing to future green workforce skills our Connecting Communities with their blue and green space project will increase community confidence and knowledge to access blue green space, enabling experiences to appreciate and care for our environments whilst improving the physical health and mental wellbeing of children, young people and people from under-represented groups.

The Connecting Communities Project Lead will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery to meet the agreed outputs and outcomes of this Green Recovery Challenge Fund project, this will include managing, supporting and mentoring trainees on their journey to becoming Environment and Engagement Rangers, planning programmes for delivery, project management, stakeholder liaison and project evaluation.


  • Manage, support and mentor three Kickstart trainees to develop the project and community links, enabling them to become trainee Environment and Engagement Rangers
  • Manage, support and mentor three trainee Environment and Engagement Rangers to deliver events, engagement activities and environmental conservation opportunities at SW Lakes locations for schools and community groups
  • Oversee project evaluation. This will require contracting an external evaluator and building a plan to fully evaluate the impact and difference made by this project
  • Attend networks, meetings and forums to build relationships with key stakeholders and to share knowledge including involving SW Lakes in the Fit for the Future environmental sustainability network as a source for future planning
  • Develop and pilot a Digital Badge scheme to reward and recognise the skills and competencies gained by trainees

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Skilled and experienced project deliverer
  • Proven experience of managing and supporting trainees, coaching them to develop their skills to reach their full potential
  • At least three years’ experience of developing and delivering a range of outdoor environmental conservation, engagement and educational activities for community groups and visitors
  • A good communicator and listener, able to build solid relationships with stakeholders including young people, community organisations and their beneficiaries
  • A good all round understanding of the natural environment
  • Good geographical knowledge of south west England
