Environmental Services manage a range of Natural Habitats across the Borough of Poole, covering an area of approximately 680 hectares. The sites are very varied, including sizeable areas of SSSI Lowland Heath, home to rare and endangered wildlife.


The Borough’s Countryside Stewardship agreement is a crucial element in maintaining and improving these rich and diverse sites for both people and wildlife.


To assist in the delivery of this agreement the Borough are looking for a Senior Natural Habitats Operative together with 2 Natural Habitats Operatives to form a new small dynamic and skilled grounds team. To view details of the Natural Habitats Operative vacancies please follow this link.


This is an excellent opportunity for  a self motivated, diligent person, who is happy to work in a small team, sometimes alone BUT who will need to have proven experience of working with machinery, the senior post to include tractor driving and use of various implements. The successful candidate should hold practical certificates including NPTC chainsaw CS30/31 & Pesticide PA1 & PA6. Applicants should preferably have knowledge of nature / landscape conservation.


The role will involve a range of conservation tasks, fencing (including livestock fencing), chainsaw operations, brushcutting, mowing, application of pesticides, access improvements and general site maintenance of infrastructure. A practical aptitude and fitness appropriate to the physical nature of the job role is essential. This is a frontline role working on public sites and the person should have good interpersonal skills ands have a positive attitude towards customer care.


You will be part of the wider Streetscene team based at Hatchpond Depot and there will be the occasional requirement to assist teams across other open spaces and with developmental projects.   This role is both demanding and rewarding and offers an excellent opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic and responsive team striving to meet the Streetscene purpose -  to ensure that the public spaces of Poole are safe, clean, protected, attractive and easy to use.
