Senior Countryside Ranger
Full-time (40 hours per week), permanent appointment including lone, evening and weekend work

Salary: £30,000 to £33,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications with a 3-month review period)

Deadwater Valley Trust (DVT) is seeking a self-motivated Senior Countryside Ranger to help deliver the Management Plans and manage the existing DVT ranger team. This exciting role is part of the wider regeneration of Whitehill & Bordon with its amazing wildlife & habitats, with over 60% of the parish being designated to either European (SPA/SAC) or UK (SSSI/LNR/SINC) level
The role will include:
- Planning work schedules in accordance with the individual Management Plans for each area
- Manage the ranger team, conduct work appraisals, and develop career progression
- Act as the main point of contact between the Trust and landowners
- Regular meetings with Trustees, landowners, and stakeholders
- Producing regular reports to Trustees and landowners
- Ensure all work practices comply with current Health and Safety legislation, DVT Health & Safety Manual and general good practice
- Leading practical management tasks with staff and volunteers
- Supervise contractors carrying out work safely and legally
- Conduct hazardous tree surveys & inspections
- Budgeting of Trust’s finances alongside the Treasurer including funding applications
- Educational opportunities for local schools and colleges
- Capable of hard, physical work in all weather conditions
The role also will be as ‘lead ranger’ for the Deadwater Valley Local Nature Reserve but when required also working in the Bordon Inclosure and Hogmoor Inclosure SANGs as part of the wider ranger team
We are looking for someone who has experience in:
- Countryside management with relevant tertiary qualifications
- Being responsible for managing a ranger team
- Experience of budget control
- Working with volunteers, community groups, contractors and councils
- Producing reports using a range of media and IT skills including social media
- An enthusiastic, flexible, self-directed and motivated outdoor person who is an effective communicator and also works well in both a lone and team environment
- Hold a clean, current manual driving licence
- This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure
