Forestart collects tree and shrub seed throughout the UK, supplying the seed to grow the trees of tomorrow. We are looking for people to help us to collect and process this seed this autumn. The work involves collecting a variety of cones or berries and processing these back at our site to extract the seed and then clean it so that it can be stored or prepared for dispatch to nurseries. Collecting can be from the ground, but can involve climbing a ladder. Processing can involve sieving, using machinery, loading cones onto trays to go into the kiln or various other work. The work can be heavy (e.g. lifting bags) but can also require dexterity (e.g. hand-cleaning seed); it is very varied so we can offer roles to suit an individual.
Travel away from site can be involved. This may be locally but may involve overnight stays or even a length of time away. This is paid for by the business. The pay is £9.20 per hour for a 8.30am to 5pm day, working Monday to Friday. There is usually plenty of overtime on offer which is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate of pay.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are happy to work outside in all weathers and able to work in teams and by themselves. Flexibility and a positive attitude mean that you fit well into our work culture. We are looking for people to start immediately / in the near future and work until mid-December.
We can offer basic on-site accommodation; a shared bedrooms (2 maximum), shared kitchen and showers, and charged at £30/week (all bills included).
