Temporary position (ending 31 March 2022)
Starting salary: £33,370 pro rata
Location: Any NatureScot office. Home working requests will be considered
Job purpose summary:
You will join a team of ornithology advisers providing technical advice to support terrestrial casework and policy development. The work of the individual Bird Team members is regularly reviewed and adapted in light of corporate priorities, workloads, and the expertise/experience each individual member can bring to the team – this will also apply to your relevant expertise/experience.
The post will involve the provision of advice on bird issues arising from casework enquiries, many of which relate to the impact of wind farms on protected bird populations and the associated legal framework. It is likely to also include some forestry, non-renewables developments, wildlife crime, and licensing casework requests.
It is anticipated there will be opportunities to lead on some proactive conservation or wildlife management work for bird species. This may cover topics such as the development of policy guidance and advice in relation to species conflicts, species recovery work, or surveillance/monitoring – in partnership with relevant NatureScot colleagues and research, conservation, and land use organisations.
You may be required to travel to areas that are not covered by public transport.
