About Us

Dartmoor National Park Authority is the body that oversees the vibrant, living, working landscape and community that is Dartmoor.

We help to conserve and enhance the biodiversity, cultural heritage and landscape of Dartmoor and provide opportunities for people to enjoy the countryside as well as supporting our local communities and the rural economy.

We are now looking for four Conservation & Access Trainees to join us for 12 months. Two Trainees will commence in post on 1 January 2022, and two will join the team on 1 April 2022.

The Role

Hosted by Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) the Conservation and Access Trainee posts provide opportunities to develop practical skills and knowledge in conservation and access management. This is a partnership role working across land managed by Dartmoor National Park Authority, Woodland Trust, National Trust and Southwest Lakes Trust. The posts are funded by the Government's Green Recovery Challenge Fund.

Trainees will gain experience through practical conservation and access management work and support outreach and engagement activity. This varied role includes practical habitat management across a wide range of sites, maintenance of public rights of way and archaeological and conservation projects. They will receive mentoring and support from staff working across the partnership, developing a wide range of experience, skills with associated training.

Based within the Conservation Works Team at Dartmoor National Park Authority, trainees will work across the National Park and therefore a full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

The Conservation & Access Trainees will work 37 hours per week over 5 days. Occasional weekend and public holiday working will be required.
