Contract type: Fixed term / Working hours: Full time
Location: Lower Smite Farm, Smite Hill Hindlip , Worcester & Droitwich, Worcestershire, WR3 8SZ

We are looking for two people to engage and inspire visitors on our nature reserves as well as being our ears and eyes on the ground, collecting data and reporting issues.

We own or manage over 80 nature reserves across Worcestershire, which equates to almost 3000 acres of wild spaces for wildlife. Many of the natural wonders on these sites attract high number of visitors each year.

Visits to our nature reserves are at record numbers as more people have sought access to green space in recent months. This presents us with a great opportunity to engage with visitors and also brings additional pressure to these amazing places. Our aim is to ensure our nature reserves remain brilliant places for wildlife, while providing access where possible for visitors.

Thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Emergency Fund we are looking for two Warden Officers to join an experienced engagement team. We want these roles to help us better connect more people to the natural world and help us gain a better understanding of our visitors, with the majority of the Warden Officer role spent on nature reserves; these will be our most visited nature reserves where visitor numbers and pressures are highest. Ideally candidates will be able to start as soon as possible

Activities will include:

  • Regularly attending nature reserves
  • Communicating key messages to visitors
  • Having an active presence on our nature reserves, answering questions, providing where possible information sheets and flyers
  • Collecting basic visitor data to help us better understand who visits our nature reserves and why they visit
  • Supporting Reserve Officers in reporting issues and points of interest

You will be responsible for delivering a work plan based on a rota system that will include being active on some of our most visited nature reserves.

Some evening and regular weekend working will be required, a full clean driving licence is essential. This is a full time position on a four month fixed-term contract

The role will be largely based at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust nature reserves but with occasional travel to Lower Smite Farm, Hindlip, Worcester WR3 8SZ and regular travel required throughout Worcestershire.
