Wanstead Park, Epping Forest
Managed by the City of London Corporation, Epping Forest is the largest public green space in London and an internationally important habitat. It includes Wanstead Park, a Grade II* listed historic garden which features three lakes that originally formed part of a cascade. In considering the future of this significant waterscape, our Open Spaces team is keen to engage, inform and consult the public on the future maintenance and restoration of the water bodies.
As Community Engagement Officer, you’ll ensure people know about our plans and have a chance to contribute to them. Expect to co-ordinate engagement, consultation and communication activities on major projects for Wanstead Park ponds and the wider Epping Forest, including Baldwins and Birch Hall dams. Working closely with the Head of Visitor Services and the Corporate Stakeholder Engagement Manager, as well as City of London Corporation’s Media Team, you’ll research, plan, develop and deliver a variety of communications, from news content to presentations and reports. You will also design, deliver and analyse consultation exercises for allocated projects, attending public meetings and reporting on survey results.
You’ll bring experience of developing communications plans and strategies and undertaking public consultation and stakeholder engagement activities. This is likely to include projects involving land and water management. Strong relationship management abilities are vital and you’ll be capable of presenting and explaining policy positions and technical information to a wide variety of audiences, both in person and in writing. You’ll also have strong research and data analysis skills. Sound knowledge of the public sector and local authority issues is important, as is a good understanding of equalities and data protection law.
