Lecturer in Arboriculture

Unqualified Lecturer: £27,929 per annum

Qualified Lecturer: £32,348 per annum

Full-time, 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE)


Are you passionate about Arboriculture and able to pass on your knowledge onto our Further Education students, in theoretical and practical situations? We have an exciting opportunity to develop and grow Writtle University College’s new Arboriculture scheme.

Within this dynamic role, you will be required to provide teaching to FE students and deliver the new Arborist Apprentice Standard, including delivering the underpinning knowledge element of the course. Topics will include plant and soil science, pests and diseases, plant identification, along with surveys, inspections and trees and the law.

Responsibilities will also include carrying out regular employer visits, health and safety checks and monitoring our learner’s progress within the workplace. You will work in partnership with the Head of Department, to ensure that all students have a high-quality learning experience and are supported to achieve their qualification goals. In addition, there may also be opportunities for the successful candidate to work with our Short Courses department, to train and deliver competency certificates.

To be successful in your application you will have recent related industry experience in Arboriculture, ideally qualified to degree level or equivalent, although candidates with a minimum level 3 and considerable related experience will also be considered. It is desirable that you hold current qualifications in Cross-cutting, Chainsaw Maintenance, Felling over 380mm, MEWPs, Rigging/Climbing and Aerial Rescue.

You will also hold a recognised teaching qualification, along with and Assessor or Verifier award, or be willing to work towards. You must also be in possession of a clean UK driving licence.
