About Us

The Dartmoor Hill Farm Project supports agricultural businesses within the National Park boundary, advocating the key role that farming plays in the economy, culture and environment. It achieves this through a blend of advocacy, training and project development providing an independent and accessible service for our community. The project is guided by a Steering Group of farmers and key partners and core funding is provided by The Duchy of Cornwall, Dartmoor National Park Authority and The Princes Countryside Fund.

In 2023 the Hill Farm Project will celebrate 20 years of engagement with our farming community at a time of a seismic shift in financial support and the Governments direction of travel.

- Salary of £25,409 – £29,439 per annum
- Flexitime working arrangements
- Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
- Hybrid working from home and the office (Princetown and Parke)

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual with a demonstrable connection to farming and the rural environment.

In this role you have the opportunity to help shape project delivery, make our businesses more resilient and engage with a welcoming, proud and responsive farming community. Help us bring farming into focus from the backdrop of Dartmoor to the foreground of delivery and decision making.

The Role

As part of our small project team, you will build on the established links with the farming community to help shape and deliver a varied programme of relevant and targeted work. You will help provide and facilitate advice across key business themes such as succession, agricultural transition, farm resilience, environment, funding and wellbeing. You will also work closely with colleagues to develop, promote and implement relevant and accessible training programmes, and act as a conduit to facilitate positive change at a critical time of uncertainty and reform.

The role will help deliver the Farm for the Future Programme (2022-2025) and help farms access support through both current and future environmental schemes and grants (ELM, Farming Investment Fund, Farming in Protected Landscapes etc.). You will actively develop relationships with relevant partners and other area-based initiatives ensuring the work programme avoids duplication and forms part of a coherent Dartmoor offer. Along with your colleagues you will contribute to events and communications across the work of the team.

About You

To be successful we are ideally looking for someone with a background or strong connection to the rural sector and a good understanding of upland farming and the environment. You should be motivated, organised and have experience of working with farmers to provide direct advice and support. The successful candidate will also have good administrative and communications skills and be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the agricultural transition and current rural issues.

The post will involve hybrid working from the office and home. The role will be based at the Hill Farm Project Office at Princetown but will involve travelling around Dartmoor. The National Park operates flexible working hours and is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
