Devon Wildlife Trust

Northern Devon Natural Solutions Manager

Salary: £34,818pa plus 5% pension

Closing date: 28 November

Do you want to make your mark as a manager in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK and in an organisation where you can show your passion for making a difference to the natural environment?

Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) is Devon’s leading wildlife conservation charity, with over 40,000 members, 2,000 volunteers, 100 staff and 60 nature reserves. We are one of the larger locally based organisations that collectively make up The Wildlife Trusts. DWT has pioneered the reintroduction of beavers in England and the restoration of internationally rare habitats like Culm Grassland.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual to lead an exciting new landscape scale conservation project, Northern Devon Natural Solutions, which aims to transform wildlife, rebuild soils and restore clean rivers over a large area of the county. You will lead a team which will transform the relationship that North Devon’s land managers have with nature in order to help tackle the climate and ecological emergency. You will have experience of working with farmers and restoring river catchments, you will be able to develop good working relationships with partners, and you will be able to inspire and motivate your colleagues.

Through whole farm assessments, ecological surveys, training, specialist advice and support, the project will transform a large part of North Devon over six years. Landowners will be helped to restore and re-create wildlife habitat, improve water quality, lock up carbon, manage pollution and reduce flood risk with a focus on natural processes and wilding. The project is funded by and in partnership with Environment Agency.

Committed to carbon neutrality and high environmental standards, we are proud of our values and working culture. You will enjoy working in a high performing, ambitious and mutually supportive team and playing a key role in shaping the future of our beautiful county.

In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing to 28 days after 5 years’ service)
  • Agile working arrangements including home and Cookworthy office
  • Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
  • Death in Service cover
  • Training and development opportunities

This is a full-time, permanent post contractually based at Cookworthy.

Interviews are being held on 9 December.

We welcome candidates of all backgrounds and abilities who meet the essential criteria for this role. We are an inclusive organisation that is seeking to involve more diverse audiences in our work.
