About the role

As the Beyond Nature Farming Officer, you’ll deliver practical land management conservation advice over Yorkshire Water’s estate in Nidderdale AONB and across Yorkshire.

Your focus will be creating a network of high nature value farms through supporting farmers to enhance wildlife habitats and species. You’ll work alongside our existing part-time Beyond Nature Farming Officer, whose focus is farm business advice.

This is an opportunity for you to make a real difference to farming and wildlife through Yorkshire Water’s ground-breaking Beyond Nature™ approach.

About Beyond Nature™

Yorkshire Water are one of the largest landowners in the county, and the Beyond Nature™ initiative forms part of the organisation’s land strategy and aims to strengthen the sustainability of its land.

At the same time, it focuses on supporting farm tenants to secure businesses that can thrive in the future. 14 farms covering 5,777 hectares are already part of Beyond Nature™. Your role will involve working with these as well as expanding the programme to include other farms across the Yorkshire Water estate.

Skills and experience

This role will suit an experienced and committed farm conservation advisor.

You’ll have a successfully track record of developing close working relations with farmers, providing clear conservation and resource protection advice and experience of undertaking habitat and species surveys.

You’ll also have a good understanding and experience of current environmental land management schemes, with an eye to future developments in the uplands.

The role is based at Nidderdale AONB’s office in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. You’ll be a member of the AONB team, a group of dedicated professionals working on natural and cultural heritage projects with a wide range of partners.

You’ll also work with Yorkshire Water colleagues, and from time to time will need to travel to Yorkshire Water offices and farms outside the AONB.
