Background Information

Forestry England, East England Forest District (EEFD) is responsible for managing circa 35,000ha of Public Forest Estate land, including Wendover Woods. EEFD employs over 100 people.

Wendover Woods is one of three developed Forest Centres across the district and provides a range of recreation activities, businesses and services at the site.

Wendover woods is located within the Chilterns AONB, five miles east of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. The centre completed an exciting £4.5 million major capital investment project in 2018/19 which brought a brand new café, car park facilities, toilets, car park management system and play facilities to the site. These exciting developments significantly enhanced the capacity and potential for the site to develop and diversify the recreation offer.

The site currently attracts approximately 410,000 visitors per annum and it is anticipated that the new developments will significantly increase this number. Visitors are typically attracted to the site for Tree Top Adventure – Go Ape! Cycling, walking, play, events and other activities such as the Gruffalo Trail.

As part of the ongoing development of the site we are now seeking to appoint a Visitor Services Assistant on an Annualised Contract – 25 hours per week


Purpose of the Job

To deliver all activities relating to visitor services at the Wendover Woods Forest Centre. The post holder will be based within the information point and operate the site entry system and provide front of house customer sales/service & information on a daily basis. The job will require flexible working including weekends, school and Bank Holidays on a rota basis to ensure the information point is staffed 7 days per week.


Key Work Areas

Operate and maintain Wendover Woods Site Entry System (car park system)

Deliver sales and promotion of the Discovery Pass, promoting the benefits and value of the site to the customer. To include data entry and liaising with the National Box Office.

Provision of front of house services, providing advice and information to customers and stakeholders

Undertake cash handling duties including operating tills and fulfil start/end of day cashing up procedures.

Deal with a variety of customer enquiries over the phone and face to face.

To maintain current marketing information and cleanliness within the VC facilities and support duty rangers in maintaining the car park machines

Support Housekeeping and site maintenance to include emptying bins, litter collecting and cleaning of toilets (when necessary)

Provide support to the Wendover Woods Recreation Team

Undertake a variety of practical and organisational duties relating to the management of events.

Support the implementation of emergency procedures as necessary including first aid assistance

Support, implement and monitor social media streams to best promote and educate our customers on what Wendover Woods has to offer.


Person Specification

Experience / Professional and Technical

Essential

Previous experience working in a leisure, recreation or Forestry customer service /sales facing role and dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders and customers.

Demonstrate your ability to be self-motivated and proactive searching out opportunities to carry out tasks.

Previous experience of cash handling and till operations.

Competent IT user with experience of MS packages, the internet and emails

Desirable

Previous experience of a ANPR car park management system

Knowledge and experience of using social media applications


Additional Information

This Post is Part-Time and annualised hours, which will average 25 hours (22 after leave / PPH deduction) per week, however these do change seasonally and at times will expand/reduce as business demands dictate. The salary quoted above is the full time equivalent based on 37 hours per week.

The duties of the post require a flexible working week to allow for rostering on weekends, public and privilege holidays and evenings (with the exception of Christmas Day).
