Climate Change & Carbon Reduction Officer

Initially a One Year Contract

£26,000 - £28,600 with potential progression to £32,000)

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK covering the North York Moors National Park and Scarborough Borough. Working jointly for both the Authority and the Council, this new post will take a lead on climate change issues and reducing carbon emissions of both organisations’ activities to achieve net carbon zero by 2030.

We‘ll want you to champion climate change, develop plans for carbon reduction and oversee their implementation across the organisations. Whilst the post is initially a one year contract, if continued the scope of the role will expand to include the wider geographical area. To be successful, we’ll need you to demonstrate your:

  • Motivation and enthusiasm for tackling climate change issues
  • An aptitude for research, collection of data and action planning
  • A keen interest in finding credible emission offsetting schemes
  • The ability to apply theory in a practical setting
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills

The National Park and surrounding area is a superb place to live and work with excellent schools and good access to main transportation links. Whilst the post is based at the Authority’s Headquarters in the attractive town of Helmsley (with travel to Scarborough as necessary), it is expected the post will involve a significant amount of home working.

Other organisations may call this role Climate Change Officer, Carbon Reduction Officer, Climate Change Project Co-ordinator, Climate Change Project Officer, Green Ambassador, or Climate Change Programme Officer.
