Senior Reserves Manager

Salary: £33,736

Natural England is seeking two enthusiastic, motivated individuals to lead the management of two suites of National Nature Reserves located in North and West Norfolk and the Broads. These are diverse and rewarding roles in some of the most iconic countryside in England.

The North and West Norfolk Senior Reserve Manager will manage a suite of sites includes Dersingham Bog, Swanton Novers Woodland, Scolt Head Island, Holkham Foreshore and a small part of The Wash. You will inspire and manage a dynamic team of staff comprising 2 reserve managers, 2 reserve wardens and an apprentice. In addition, the team works with and develops a diverse volunteer group.

The Broads Senior Reserve Manager will manage a suite of sites including Bure Marshes, Calthorpe Broad, Ludham and Potter Heigham Marshes and Winterton Dunes National Nature Reserves. You will inspire and manage a dynamic team of staff comprising of 3 reserve wardens, as well as working with a diverse volunteer group.

The jobs require a combination of technical and practical land management knowledge. The successful individuals will have a broad understanding and experience of practical conservation land management and a desire to protect and enhance the biodiversity of the sites, as part of the wider landscape. The suites are located in the North Norfolk Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the Broads National Park. You will be working on Sites of Special Scientific interest so understanding or experience of protected sites would be advantageous. The role may include some hands-on practical management but predominantly managing staff and/or contractors to deliver nature recovery and habitat enhancement projects. A good understanding of biodiversity recording including ecological survey and monitoring skills would be valuable. Natural England has a strong Health & Safety culture so a firm understanding of current best practice and legislation relating to practical conservation management is essential.

You will be central to the delivery of Natural England’s Vision, Mission and Aims, such as the National Nature Reserve (NNR) Strategy and the Defra 25 Year Environment Plan, in North & West Norfolk. As such you will need to be a strong communicator and be able to build and maintain productive relationships with volunteers, local communities, and a range of partners.
