Background
CGO Ecology is a small, friendly consultancy with a reputation for quality and reliability. Staff care, development and retention is important to us, especially in a competitive job market. We operate via a wide network of subconsultants. Most of our business is currently in the public sector, although we have a large private sector portfolio too. Demand currently outstrips our capacity.
Role
We are recruiting a Principal Ecologist to work alongside Director & Principal Ecologist Dr Chris Gleed-Owen and share his workload. The successful applicant will provide ecological consultancy on projects across Britain, sharing the current workload of the Director & Principal Ecologist. The role will be home-based primarily, with some fieldwork and meetings across the country.
Requirements
The postholder will have the requisite experience in ecological consultancy, and be abreast with current policy, standards, and guidance. They will have:
Salary, benefits
Salary from £40,000 per annum, negotiable depending on the candidate. Normal working week 40 hours, with 32 days’ leave per year (24 days discretionary, 8 days statutory holidays). We operate a flexi-time arrangement, self-managed by the postholder. We value a healthy work-life balance, and endeavour to accommodate people’s personal commitments.
We offer full maternity pay for three months, and half pay for up to nine months. We offer full paternity pay for up to two months. We offer full sick pay for up to two weeks, negotiable thereafter. We cultivate a healthy employee-employer relationship, with regular meetings to invite feedback. We operate an Equal Opportunities policy. The postholder may choose their pension provider.
We reimburse accommodation, travel and meal costs associated with fieldwork, including mileage at 45p, and an allowance for home-office costs. We provide necessary PPE and equipment for the role, and a CPD/training budget of at least £1000 per year for relevant courses and conferences. We pay employees’ CIEEM membership and any other professional dues.
Application
Please email Chris Gleed-Owen (chris@cgoecology.com), attaching a CV. Interview will be by Teams/Zoom meeting or in person where practicable. The post will be advertised until Fri 20th May 2022, and we would like to recruit as soon as possible in summer 2022.
Do not hesitate to ask any questions about the role and your potential suitability for it, especially if you are concerned that your CV doesn’t match the requirements of the role. We are happy to advise – without prejudice - ecologists wishing to progress to a senior role, who need help and guidance getting there.
