As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
What it's like to work here
West Cornwall is a portfolio of diverse properties in the far west of the county. From industrial mining sites to formal gardens, ancient estates to beautiful beaches and soaring granite cliffs, it has a strong, individual identity. On the moors of West Penwith, the signs of history are everywhere in an archaeologically rich landscape. Farming is important and we work with tenant farmers as our partners. We also care for a significant residential let estate and look after landscapes loved by many.
The countryside team is based close to the Count House at Botallack (near St Just). We’re a busy and creative team and we work hard for places we care about. Whether it’s conservation work to our properties, or engaging people with special places, we’re proud to make a difference.
What you'll be doing
We have two delivery teams. You’ll be part of the Restore Nature team, helping to deliver multiple Countryside Stewardship schemes, controlling bracken, managing scrub, looking after hay meadows, providing arable crops for birds, setting up sites for grazing and maintaining a gold standard of care for our Dartmoor ponies.
You’ll help to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll ensure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work the team are doing.
Who we're looking for

- happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and why it matters

- able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
- experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors
- able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates
- a driver with a full UK driving licence
