The Habitat Restoration Company

Habitat Restoration Operative

Full-time | Permanent | Employed

Location: Bugle (Cornwall) – with work across Devon and Cornwall

Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum, depending on experience.

About the role

Habitat Restoration Co. Ltd is looking to recruit a Habitat Restoration Operative to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career working outdoors, contributing to meaningful environmental projects, and growing alongside a small, knowledgeable, and ambitious business.

We’re looking for the right person, not just a list of qualifications. Practical experience is helpful, but curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in nature and the environment are just as important. This role would suit someone who enjoys varied work, is keen to learn, and wants to be part of a team that takes pride in doing things properly.

What you’ll be doing

Your role will involve a wide variety of practical land management and habitat restoration tasks, generally split seasonally, including:

  • Grounds maintenance and woodland establishment
  • Tree and hedgerow planting

As you grow into the role, you’ll also have the opportunity to support and develop skills in our wider services, including:

  • Wildlife pond and wetland creation
  • Natural flood management works
  • Woodland management and restoration
  • Supporting ecological and consultancy-led projects

No two weeks are the same, and you’ll work across a range of sites in Devon and Cornwall, from farms and estates to nature reserves and conservation sites.

About you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine interest in working outdoors and within nature
  • Is curious about ecology, habitats, and land management
  • Enjoys practical, hands-on work and varied locations
  • Wants to learn, develop, and grow their career with us
  • Is reliable, adaptable, and enjoys working as part of a small team

Experience with machinery, tools, or land-based work is welcome but not essential. If you already hold tickets such as strimmer, chainsaw, or spraying qualifications, that’s a bonus - but training can be provided.

Training and development

We are committed to helping the right person develop with us. This includes:

  • Training for machinery and equipment required for the role
  • Ongoing in-house training and mentoring
  • Opportunities to expand into specialist areas of habitat restoration
  • Clear scope to progress as the business grows

Pay and benefits

  • Salary up to £32,000, depending on experience
  • Annual profit-share bonus
  • Two paid volunteer days per year & contribution to our social governance commitments
  • All work travel provided and paid for
  • Free parking at our Bugle yard
  • A supportive working environment with real opportunities to grow
  • Flexible holiday buy & sell scheme
  • Access to one-to-one wellbeing professional support

Working arrangements

  • Full-time, permanent employed position
  • Daily start from our Bugle yard
  • Work carried out across Devon and Cornwall, with travel provided

How to Apply

If this role sounds like a good fit for you, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send the following to info@habitatrestoration.co.uk (and address to Charlie).

  • A CV outlining your experience (formal or practical), and
  • A short covering email or letter telling us a bit about you, your interest in working in habitat restoration, and why you’d like to join Habitat Restoration Co. Ltd.

We’re particularly interested in hearing about:

  • What draws you to working outdoors and within nature
  • Any relevant experience, training, or transferable skills
  • What you’re hoping to learn or develop in the role

There is no requirement for a formal or academic application style - clarity, honesty and enthusiasm matter far more to us.

A Note on Originality

We appreciate that tools such as AI and online templates are increasingly common and accessible. Applicants will not be discounted for how they prepare their application; however, we would strongly encourage candidates to write their application in their own words.

We value authenticity and are keen to understand who you are, what motivates you, and how you think. Applications that are personal and original - even if informal - are far more helpful to us than polished but generic responses.

Closing date: Monday 2nd March, with interviews on Wednesday 11th March.
