Job Purpose Summary

NatureScot is Scotland’s Nature Agency, protecting and restoring nature, and inspiring everyone to value our natural world. You will contribute to NatureScot’s vision for a nature-rich future for Scotland by encouraging action to protect, restore and value nature in the local Operational team.

The focus will be on (a) working in a team to deliver NatureScot’s Development Advice Service, advising consulting authorities on the implications of proposals for Scotland’s nature, (b) acting as a case officer for Agri-environment and climate change schemes and (c) advising land managers on the impacts of their management proposals on protected areas. Depending on the location, other areas of work will include monitoring of protected sites, species management schemes, marine and coastal tasks and proactive work to address climate change and biodiversity loss.

We are looking for flexibility across the balance of the areas of work, depending on the skills and experience of the individual and of other team members. Training and mentoring will be provided on the technical aspects of the post.

We are recruiting 7 posts, a mix of full time, part time, temporary and permanent, to be based in specific locations around the country including the Outer Hebrides, Argyll, the Northern Isles and the Borders. The majority of the work is expected to be desk based and post holders can adopt a mix of office and home based working depending on their circumstances and preferences. There will also be site based work, including site visits for casework and monitoring of protected areas and species across their patch, so we would expect the post-holder to be resident in the relevant area. As part of your supporting statement, please highlight your interest in any of the specific posts or locations together with the specific skills or experience you can bring to that positon. If you are interested in one or more of the vacancies (or other NatureScot locations) then please prioritise them, 1 being your first choice and so on.
