Lead and support the exemplary delivery of forest planning across Forestry England.
About this role
Forest planning is the foundation of our sustainable forest management. We need plans to guide the management of our forests, gain approval from our regulators, engage with local communities, consult key stakeholders, conserve biodiversity, and build resilient forests of the future. Forest Plans are a crucial tool in how we shape our forest landscapes, and a key mechanism to deliver our Growing the Future objectives.
This role is the national lead for forest planning within Forestry England. The Lead Planning Manager must show leadership on all aspects of forest planning, lead the teams across England who produce our Forest Plans, and lead on the development of how we plan our forests and then operationalise those plans. How we plan our forests continues to develop as our organisation evolves. Forestry England have embraced a Natural Capital approach in land management, as it allows us to make the best decisions about how we grow the public benefits provided by our forests. For instance, since 2016 Forestry England have produced an annual Corporate Natural Capital Account and we make land acquisition decisions based on their potential to boost the natural capital asset value of our estate. Forest plans are at the heart of decision-making within Forestry England. This role will lead on developing our approach to integrating natural capital decision-making with our forest planning process. In addition, the role will lead on forest management certification under the UK Woodland Assurance Standard, continue to streamline forest plan creation, and be a strong team player in National Operations team.
