We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team and help us expand tree cover in Walsall, enhancing the biodiversity and ecological value of our urban landscape.

As the Woodland Creation and Rewilding Officer, your main responsibility will be to drive the expansion of tree cover across the borough. You will work closely with local communities, stakeholders, and partner organizations to identify suitable sites for woodland creation and rewilding projects. Your expertise will be vital in developing and implementing innovative strategies to achieve our ambitious tree cover targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and assess potential sites for woodland creation and rewilding, considering factors such as biodiversity, soil quality, and accessibility.
  • Develop and implement tree planting programs, ensuring they align with local environmental objectives and community needs.
  • Engage and collaborate with local communities, landowners, schools, businesses, and volunteers to raise awareness and participation in woodland creation initiatives.
  • Provide expert advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on tree planting, species selection, and sustainable land management practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of woodland creation and rewilding projects, collecting data on biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and community engagement.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate the progress and success of tree planting initiatives to senior management, elected officials, and the public.

   
Requirements:

  • A background in environmental conservation, forestry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in tree planting, woodland creation, or rewilding projects.
  • Knowledge of woodland creation and design and right tree, right place principles, ecological restoration, and sustainable land management practices.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and deliver multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • An effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
