We are looking for someone with an interest in the environment, who is highly personable, passionate, and organised. Someone who is committed to supporting community powered change and facilitating local people to act for nature. This role will enable you to make a real difference to nature’s recovery and to be part of our vision to protect 30% of land and sea for wildlife by 2030 and to help us reach the objective of 1 in 4 people taking action for wildlife.

You will deliver the Wild at the Edges project which will engage local communities in nature recovery.

East Cleveland is a diverse area of farmland, coast, moorland edge and deep, incised wooded valleys. It has a scattering of villages with roots in the areas industrial past, and often affected by rural deprivation. To create a Nature Recovery Network through East Cleveland, we need to improve connectivity through this environment. We need to understand how field edges, road verges, streams and hedges can work better as ecologically rich edge habitats and what each can do to make a lasting difference for wildlife.

The project will engage communities in exploring and recording the wildlife of different edge and border habitats, leading to a better understanding of their value and function and identifying ways that they might be better managed and restored to recover nature across the wider landscape. The project builds on the momentum of our East Cleveland Barn Owl Nest Box Network project, which has engaged with multiple landowners on measures to support populations of this iconic farmland bird. We have developed good relationships and trust to help us support landowners to take other and more complex wildlife management measures.

The project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
