The Heart of England Forest is a charity working to reverse centuries of woodland decline and plant and preserve a magnificent 30,000 acre native broadleaf forest for the benefit of the environment, people and wildlife. It will be protected and secured for generations to come.
So far over 2 million new trees have been planted, covering around 4,500 acres across Worcestershire and Warwickshire. These new woodlands make up the significant part of our 7,000 acre Forest, which consists of a mosaic of habitats that provide a safe and permanent place for wildlife as well as an escape for people from the urban environments surrounding it.
We have recently been awarded a significant grant from the Defra Trees Call to Action Fund for #Defra Heart of England: growing momentum, capacity, skills and trees. In partnership with Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, and Wychavon District Councils, the Heart of England Forest will lead this three year project to engage with landowners and local communities to increase tree cover across the landscape. Working together to identify suitable areas for trees to be planted, facilitate tree planting, and support woodland maintenance, new woodlands will be created that benefit the environment, boost biodiversity, and provide havens for communities to enjoy. As we grow the level of tree cover then more skilled people are needed to plant and maintain the new woods. The project will create four full-time project roles, four apprenticeships, and provide training for local volunteers, increasing the number of people with the requisite skills and ensuring sustainability of these new woodlands.
The Heart of England Forest is a vibrant and rewarding place to work. Joining the charity as part of the Trees Call to Action Fund project delivery team offers the unique chance to play a key part in delivering momentous and meaningful work today, that establishes long-term foundations for further growth tomorrow.
