A bit about us
The Mendip Hills AONB Service works to conserve and enhance the nationally designated landscape. The Service produces and guides the delivery of the statutory management plan, comments on planning applications, runs projects and is assisted by volunteers. Nature recovery is providing a focus for much of our work now, guided by a Nature Recovery Plan for the AONB.
Here's what you can expect to be doing
The Nature Recovery Ranger will support the AONB Service to identify and undertake tasks delivering the objectives from the Nature Recovery Plan. 50% of the role will focus on the North Somerset Council section of the AONB while the rest of the time will cover other areas of the AONB, North Somerset Council are providing 50% of the funding for this role.
The role will work with AONB staff, landowners and other organisations to plan and deliver nature recovery tasks, some will include volunteers. These tasks will include tree and hedgerow planting, pond restoration, grassland enrichment, wetland creation and reptile over-wintering sites. You will help the AONB Project Development Officer plan nature recovery opportunities to engage AONB communities.
A few things about you
You will have experience of a range of practical countryside management tasks, surveying and working with volunteers alongside knowledge of current countryside management issues. You’ll understand relevant health & safety with regard to working with volunteers. You’ll have the ability to communicate confidently and with enthusiasm to a wide variety of people. Able to work alone as well as part of a team. 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including Maths & English. Vocational / higher education qualification in relevant subject, such as countryside management, or considerable knowledge gained from practical experience in countryside / rural skills.
