Rangers play a hugely important role at the National Trust, thinking long term to look after our special places. Our strategy for Land Outdoors and Nature means that we are investing in front line ranger services to help us deliver positive changes at a landscape scale. We are looking to recruit a Lead Ranger to join our team in the Bristol portfolio to ensure excellent, sustainable care and conservation is delivered across our varied site.

What it's like to work here

Your main base will be Leigh Woods but you will also be responsible for the management of a range of diverse and interesting sites across Bristol. These include The Tyntesfield Estate, Cadbury Camp, Redcliffe Bay, Failand, Shirehampton, Frenchay and Blaise Hamlet. You’ll also be required to work occasional weekends and bank holidays.

What you'll be doing

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to work in some of the most beautiful parts of the south west, rich in wildlife and landscape value. As Lead Ranger, you’ll be responsible for the management of a team of rangers and volunteers who care for these sites. You’ll use your leadership skills and experience in countryside and access management to drive forward our plans for conservation and visitor engagement in an enthusiastic and motivated manner and will ensure that all staff are ambassadors for National Trust within their role.

Who we're looking for

In order to be successful in this role you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership skills and experience, managing a team of paid staff or volunteers
  • Strong countryside management experience and a good understanding of conservation principles
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of audiences
  • Strong organisation skills including time and resource management, and budget management
  • Enthusiastic and knowledgeable, highly self-motivated, you’ll be a great champion for the property with external communities
  • The ability to manage internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • The passion to lead by example, to deliver exceptional visitor experiences every day and maintain conservation at the heart of all we do
  • Good knowledge of health and safety requirements
  • Driving Licence
