Eastbrookend Country Park is a fantastic countryside site in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, providing local communities with access to woodland, meadows, lakes and rivers.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and knowledgeable individual to join our small but dedicated Ranger Team. The role is based at the Discovery Centre in Eastbrookend Country Park but will also including the management of The Chase Local Nature Reserve, Beam Valley Country Park and the Beam Parklands.

You be a champion for our parks and open spaces and be the ‘friendly face’ of the Council and Ranger Service.

To provide a visible and approachable site presence and act as the main point of contact for the local community, visitors and other service users.

Develop, promote and deliver a creative and imaginative programme of community focused education and outreach activities, including environmental education, nature conservation, community engagement, volunteering, health improvement and play.

The country parks and nature reserves within the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham are passionately maintained by our dedicated rangers who perform a variety of duties ensuring it remains valuable for both residents and wildlife.

Our rangers interact with the public on a daily basis facilitating their enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside sites in the borough.

The rangers duties involve:

  • day to day management, patrolling and monitoring of sites
  • carrying out minor routine repairs and maintenance within the park
  • carrying out wildlife habitat management work
  • monitoring wildlife habitats and species
  • developing and delivering projects to improve access
  • enhance wildlife habitats
  • monitoring contractors on site
  • deliver environmental education for schools and organised groups
  • developing and implementing guided walks/talks
  • delivering our own events programme
  • working with local communities and involving them to improve the open space sites
  • running volunteer workdays
  • assisting visitors to the park with any enquiries & provide information about the open spaces.
  • responding to any on-site incidents and emergencies.
