Contract Type: Permanent

Reference/IRC: IRC122674

Closing Date: 26th June 2022

Salary: £35,022 per annum

Are you a charismatic, committed and enthusiastic leader with a proven track-record in countryside management? Would you love to lead our Land, Outdoors and Nature (LON) work in the Suffolk & Essex Coast portfolio on some of the National Trust’s most iconic coastal properties in the East of England?

This a rare opportunity to take a leading role in a beautiful part of the country. You’ll work as part of the portfolio’s management team alongside senior property colleagues, leading and inspiring your countryside team, as well as our many portfolio staff and volunteers together with wider stakeholder and partner organisations, in how they can play their part in restoring a beautiful, healthy and natural environment.

Wild, rugged and often wind-swept, the natural environment and landscapes of the Suffolk & Essex Coast have inspired writers, poets and artists over centuries. The area is a popular tourism destination in the summer and hauntingly beautiful in the winter. Shingle beaches, coastal marshes, heathland and wide meandering estuaries, home to rare and iconic wildlife, characterise the natural landscapes of the area. The big skies, the coast, the churring of nightjars and the sights and sounds of wading birds and wildfowl on the estuaries, will stay with you forever.

Reporting to the General Manager, and as part of the Portfolio’s Management team, you’ll play a strategic role in the future of the portfolio. Leading your countryside team you’ll set and deliver plans to protect and enhance the conservation of our properties. You’ll be responsible for strategic planning and the operational day-to-day delivery for land, outdoors and nature on our properties. You’ll be part of the East of England LON delivery group working with key staff from other properties across the region and professional advisors from the our regional office to help shape and deliver our exciting nature conservation strategy to 2025. You’ll work with a wide variety of external stakeholders in delivering your work and you’ll enable a broad range of visitors to have outstanding and inspirational experiences through the quality of our welcome and the effectiveness of our conservation work.
