Flexible working available
Various locations

You’ll relish this opportunity to take a lead on providing advice that helps nature to support people and our planet. Because everything’s better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As a Lead Adviser, you’ll use your environmental insights to help us shape a more sustainable future. Right now we’re recruiting to a wide range of roles across England. You can specify your preferred location as part of your application, and if you’re successful we’ll do our best to allocate you to the area of work that most suits you. We are currently focusing on a range of key programmes: greener farming and fisheries; sustainable development; connecting people with nature; resilient landscapes and seas. We also provide specialist science and evidence.

To join us, you will need a degree in an environmental discipline or significant experience of working in the environmental sector. You’ll bring to the role basic knowledge of legislative frameworks and drivers for the environment. We’ll also expect you to demonstrate skills in one or more of the following areas: statutory planning and wildlife licensing; England’s biodiversity commitments; ecological knowledge of habitats or species; connecting people with nature; advising on sustainable land management; arable cropping to benefit biodiversity; using systems to gather business intelligence. A driving licence would be a real advantage.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If you’re inspired to protect and enhance England’s wildlife, and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, apply here
