Director of Science
Location: Flexible in UK
Salary: £72,830 - £81,467 per annum
Hours: Full time
In this period of enormous political, economic, social, technological and environmental change, the RSPB is seeking a new Director of Science to help inspire a world richer in nature.
All our work is underpinned by the best evidence thanks to our scientists who help identify and prioritise conservation problems, diagnose their causes, discover and communicate solutions to them, and test the efficacy of solutions when implemented. Increasingly, we work to understand people's relationship with nature, and the benefits they receive from it to help make the case for the conservation of nature.
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought into sharp focus the consequences of what happens when we do not respect nature, and the importance of connecting with it to lift our spirits. There are challenges, as well as opportunities, ahead of us to prevent, slow and repair the damage we are doing to wildlife and habitats. The new Director of Science will be at the forefront of finding solutions to these 21st century conservation challenges.
We are looking for an exceptional individual to attract, lead, retain and nurture the best scientific talent to enable the RSPB to be maximise its impact for nature and for people; to lead its scientific programme (both natural and social science) in all four countries of the UK and overseas; and to continue to ensure that all of the RSPB's work is underpinned by the best available evidence.
If you are such a leader, we would love to hear from you.
