Seasonal Field Assistants – Ecology

Are you able to work away from home up to 4 nights at a time (weekdays)?

Bowland Ecology is looking for Seasonal Field Assistants for the survey season to assist with protected species surveys and deployment of equipment and other tasks to support our Technical and Admin Team.

Pay starts at £12 per hour and training will be given to the right candidates. We offer a Zero Hours contract with the flexibility for you to take up or turn down surveys dependent on availability.

Seasonal Field Assistant Job Description and Person Specification

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with and developing skills in full range of ecological surveys but principally bat surveys and peat probing
  • Preparing survey equipment
  • Reviewing data/camera footage
  • Working within Bowland Ecology’s Quality and Environmental Management Systems

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

E: Essential D: Desirable

  • Full, Clean Driving Licence and access to a car (E)
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail (E)
  • Graduate in in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science (with an Ecology focus) or similar/equivalent; or graduated with a degree in above. (D)
  • Experience of/ ability to learn how to use survey equipment(D)
  • Voluntary experience within a wildlife or conservation setting (D)
  • Ability to identify common protected or invasive flora and fauna (D)
  • Willingness to work outdoors and unsocial hours (mainly evenings) (D)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions (E)
  • Understanding of health and safety processes (E)
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and QGIS (D)
  • Ability to respond flexibly to last minute changes (E)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and positive approach with colleagues and clients (E)
  • Proactive approach to Bowland Ecology’s culture of continuous improvement (E)
  • Passion for ecology! (E)
