Kinloch Hourn Estate, West Coast of Scotland.
Kinloch Hourn Estate, a remote estate on the West Coast of Scotland, 23 miles down a single-track (public) road at the head of Loch Hourn, is ultimately looking for a couple to live on site, to look after the property, housekeep and carry out stalking duties but accepts that the role may be best served on an interim basis for the 2023 season.
The permanent position would suit a couple with “one half” skilled in stalking and estate maintenance, and the “other half” helping with the day to day running of the Estate and housekeeping in Kinloch Hourn Lodge. Successful applicants will be able to fulfil a variety of roles with requirements being estate and property maintenance and management, gardening, looking after two ponies, stalking and hill management and boat management.
On an interim basis, Kinloch Hourn Estate will accept applicants to perform a seasonal caretaking role, this role, from late June to September, would suit people without all of the skills noted.
The Estate consists of Kinloch Hourn Lodge, a cottage and various buildings. The ground rises steeply on the north side of Louch Hourn and has a variety of paths and tracks that require maintenance. The Estate is off grid and has a hydroelectric scheme with a backup generator, there is an assortment of equipment including a quad bike and argo cat (necessary qualifications required) along with other equipment usually found on an estate of this nature. The applicant should have mechanical and problem solving skills. The successful applicant will be expected to organise contractors working on the Estate. The flora and fauna must be managed sustainably and 15 stags and 35 hinds are shot annually, the applicant will be expected to lead stalking parties, carry out deer counts and represent the Estate at DMG meetings, DSC Level 1 is required along with a firearms licence.
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Accommodation in a three-bed cottage is included. Must have UK right-to-work.
